It has been a good while since someone has caught me off guard, and for it to happen the way it did is absolutely astounding. What Bill is talking about in the opening of our discussion is my online bio. I use it for CineDump, IMDB, Letterboxd... I pretty much use it for everything.
I'm not sure how many people have read it, as nobody seems to comment on it. However, Bill Oberst Jr. did read it, he brought it up, and that made my day. If you're curious as to why this is such a hilarious feat, see for yourself HERE.
Bill Oberst is one of those actors that I hadn't heard of until I started CineDump. He is genuinely respected among fans and actors alike. The roles he takes on are usually and typically not necessarily high profile, but because of Bill's skill and effort, they almost always tend to be memorable. I had a conversation about this yesterday actually; a friend of mine couldn't get over Bill's performance in Krampus: The Christmas Devil.
While most proven actors would phone in these types of gigs, Oberst goes all in and converts into and becomes characters like "The Older Guy" or "Priest".
While these may not be the glamorous roles that come to mind when you think of Hollywood, these parts have led Oberst to not only having plenty of work, but he's also been nationally recognized for his efforts.
Bill's individual awards include but are not limited to The 2017 Horror Icon Award at The Optical Theatre Festival, The 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award at iHolly International Film Festival, and a 2017 Best Actor Award at Dark Veins Horror Film Festival. There are many more, but there is only so much time in the day.
So, considering all of this, it was pretty fantastic to be called out by someone that I not only look up to but also one of my community's most highly touted individuals.
While I wasn't aware of Bill's famous app, I am acquainted with much of his filmography. With over 180 credits listed on IMDB as of today, I still have a long way to go, but I'd say I have a leg up when it comes to anyone who is willing to take a deep dive into the legend that is Bill Oberst.
If this is your first time hearing of this amazing actor, you can do as Bill suggests and check out his ratings-winning role on CBS-TV's Criminal Minds or you could check out one of his latest features, Devil’s Junction: Handy Dandy’s Revenge.
This October, it simply doesn’t get much better than the two Bills, as horror icons Bill Moseley and Bill Oberst, Jr. team for director Jeff Broadstreet’s “Jolly” bloody horror epic Devil’s Junction: Handy Dandy’s Revenge.
In L.A theaters for special splattastic screenings 10/18 and 10/19, with an On-Demand and DVD release set for 11/5 from Midnight Releasing, the J.S Brinkley-scripted Halloween treat sees a shuttered TV studio in Detroit haunted by a magician ventriloquist from a 1960's children's show, and he's looking for anew live, or dead, studio audience.
