Love, Flesh, and Fracture: Together Lands at Home in Bloody Fashion

NEON has officially brought one of the year’s most talked-about genre hybrids home. Michael Shanks’ body-horror love story Together is now available across all major platforms, including digital, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.

Often described as one of the most fun horror films in recent years, Together turns a quiet night in into something far more disturbing. The film leans heavily on the real-life chemistry of Dave Franco and Alison Brie, blending relationship drama with visceral body horror in a way that feels both intimate and deeply uncomfortable.

Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie find themselves at a crossroads. In an effort to reconnect, they leave their familiar city life behind and move to the countryside, holding onto each other as the only constant they have left. That fragile equilibrium collapses after a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious and unnatural force, one that begins to corrupt not just their love, but their bodies as well. What follows is a steady descent into emotional and physical unraveling.

The journey itself is where Together shines. The film delivers strong effects, several genuinely effective scares, and a number of moments that fully embrace the grotesque fun of body horror. Franco and Brie make Tim and Millie feel relatable, grounding the film even as it spirals into stranger territory. Their chemistry is essential, giving the audience a couple worth caring about even when things become increasingly absurd.

The film is not without its flaws. The ending may not land for everyone, and there are a few noticeable plot holes along the way. Some of the later effects feel familiar, having been executed more effectively in other films, and there are moments that veer into outright silliness. The hype surrounding the film may have set expectations a little too high. Still, if you are willing to relax and enjoy the ride, there is plenty of fun to be had. It is the kind of movie that works best when you accept both its clever ideas and its dumb ones.

The home release is packed with worthwhile bonus features. An interview with writer and director Michael Shanks explores the film’s influences, horror sensibilities, and technical execution. Alison Brie and Dave Franco also sit down to discuss the project, their collaboration with Shanks, and the practical effects work. A lighthearted Codependency Quiz featuring the two leads adds a playful touch, alongside both the teaser and theatrical trailers.

Written and directed by Michael Shanks, Together is produced by Mike Cowap, Andrew Mittman, Erik Feig, Julia Hammer, Tim Headington, Max Silva, Alison Brie, and Dave Franco. The film also features Damon Herriman in a supporting role.

While it may not redefine the genre, Together delivers an entertaining and often effective mix of romance and body horror. Rough edges and all, it stands as a memorable watch and another bold entry in NEON’s growing catalog of films designed to spark conversation when family comes to visit.
